During the last two months of 2009 we completely rebuilt our outdoor arena. This project consisted of removing the existing sand footing, and rehabilitating the arena’s sub-base by bringing in additional sub-base material and re-grading and compacting this sub-base. We then constructed two full length sub-grade drainage systems consisting of geotextile filter fabric lining, drainage gravel and perforated drain pipe; constructed a concrete perimeter arena curb; and replaced our existing arena fencing with a new timber fence. Finally we installed a new footing using custom blended quartz/silica sand to International specifications and 100% synthetic GeoPad additives. This footing was patterned after that used for the 2008 Hong Kong Olympic riding arenas. Our new rebuilt outdoor arena opened for riding at the beginning of 2010, and has not only provided excellent footing for our trainers, clients and horses but can be used immediately after periods of heavy rain.
